— Jerome H. “Jerry” O’Neil, founder and long-time publisher of Michigan Banker maga zine, passed away August 11 at his East Lansing home.
O’Neil, 74, was publisher for over 38 years.
He was in retirement for a brief time when he sold the magazine in
2000 He took it back in 2004. Jerry has published Michigan Banker magazine; and predecessor magazines, Michigan Tradesman and Michigan Banking and Business News since the early ‘70s.
Jerry grew up in
Plymouth
,
Michigan
, and moved to
East Lansing
to attend
Michigan
State
University
’s
School
of
Journalism
.
“Along with the many friendships and business contacts he developed during that time period, Jerry built a strong tradition of covering
Michigan
’s banking industry and the news events that have impacted bankers. He made Michigan Banker a magazine about and for
Michigan
’s banking community,” said his son, Greg O’Neil, now CEO and publisher.
